![]() Jim McCallum |
Jim is well known for his characteristic and humorous way of reading out the Pennant results on Saturday Nights. He gives a nickname for each skipper, praise for the winners and commiserations for the beaten skips and their teams. After a mixed round of sports including Tennis, Golf, Soccer and Darts, Jim joined Noble Park Bowls Club in 1989 after his brother in Scotland talked him into trying the game. Jim was lucky in his first year of Pennant to win the 1990 Pennant Flag. Jim has given much to his club including five years on the committee and now his work as Senior Vice President and Greens Director is a credit to our Club. His other interests include Music, Gilbert & Sullivan, Johnny Cash while enjoying a good malt whisky. Jim does have some faults he follows the Kangaroos. His greatest accomplishment is his trip to the USA and completing a computer course. |
![]() Mavis Bell |
Mavis was a member of Noble Park Bowls Club since 1986, when the club was formed. As Mavis is not one to sit around when there is a job to be done, she joined the Bowling Club as a founding member. Mavis has spent most years on the General Committee and has held most of the positions in the Ladies Committee, including four years as President. She has seen the club grow and expand the number of its teams over the years. Mavis considers her funniest event was the evening Noble Park Football Social Club celebrated its 1994 Pennant Flag win. When not at the club or running Bingo, Mavis likes to relax with Alf, having a quiet moselle or whisky, listening to another great win by the Saints. Mavis lists her greatest accomplishment as raising her five children. |
![]() Norm Watson |
Norm, although a Richmond Tigers supporter, was first and foremost an AFL fan. He was a strong supporter of Waverley Park where he went every Saturday. When the AFL closed Waverley Park, part of his heart went with it, like most of us AFL supporters. Although still a Cricket lover and with his Tigers still giving him a disappointing run, he looked to Lawn Bowls. Norm joined Noble Park Bowls Club in 1999 and, after a couple of years, he put up his hand to undertake a job most in the club refer to as the worst/hardest: He became a selector, well suited for the job as he is always approachable and has the welfare of the club as his goal. He shares this view with the other selectors who deserve all our support. For relaxation, he is a keen country and western fan, whilst enjoying a glass of scotch or a beer after a Sunday roast lamb with Trixie and the kids. |
![]() John Hatt |
A bright cheerful smile, a quick wit, if it needs to be done it is; that's Johnny Hatt. Born in 1931, he is a well known founding member and past President, committee member, a tireless voluntary worker in everything from gardener, cleaner, Bingo and many others. I have been told his commitment to Indoor Bowls (VIBBA) where he has also served for several years as President, is the reason the Indoor Bowls section is so strong in the club. A keen supporter of the Noble Park Football Club, he is also appreciated for his years of involvement with the Children's Christmas Party. Always the sportsman, he has played everything from Soccer, Ten Pin Bowling, Golf, Lawn Bowls and Indoor Bias Bowls. He has so many young children to sports through 30 years of coaching Netball, his activities with the Little Athletics and eleven years collecting for the Red Cross. His efforts are supported and kept in check by his proudest achievements: winning over his wife Eileen, his four kids children and grand children. |
![]() Peter Harris |
Peter is one of the original founding members of the club. Peter used his many talents to help in the construction and maintenance of the Noble Park Bowls Club over many years as a 'can do man' in the building and main committees. He still remembers the discussions over a few beers, when they decided to form the Noble Park Bowling Club. His input as chairman of the selection panel in the early years was instrumental in the club achieving success in its infancy. Peter still enjoys a quiet beer with his plate of seafood and is looking forward to the Richmond Tigers come back next year (if anyone knows where they are coming back from, let Peter know...). He feels his greatest accomplishment is his family and the enjoys watching his grand children grow up. |
![]() Val Sefchak |
Val put aside her time in Basketball and Social Tennis when she joined the club. In 1987/1988, her brother Jack and sister in law Val Pentland talked her into giving Bowls a go. Val stepped in and gave it her all giving time as President (Ladies), Secretary, Delegate, Umpire, VLBA Committee and General Committee member. She agreed the hardest job is the Selection Committee. Val's funniest night was after winning her first Pennant flag. The ladies celebrated in the main club singing very loud 'clever' songs that shocked some of the Noble Park Football Social Club members. Being a Sydney Swan supporter, she doesn't have much to sing about until next year. Val looks forward to sitting back watching the Swan in next year's AFL finals, enjoying a cognac after a hearty crayfish salad. |
